Correction, November 3, 2026: The earlier article included an unverified dated timing table and inappropriate medical-procedure advice. Both have been removed. The worked example below is explicitly hypothetical, not today's Gurgaon Panchang.
Check the place and date before reading the values
Gurgaon is also called Gurugram. Select the intended place, local calendar date and timezone before comparing its Panchang with another source. For an event elsewhere, use that event's location rather than assuming Gurugram's sunrise applies throughout India. Our Gurugram Panchang page is the tool to check, rather than an old table embedded in a general guide.
Start by noting the date, timezone, sunrise and sunset. Then identify whether a time beside Tithi or Nakshatra is its ending time or its start. A label beside a time is not enough: the page should explain what the time means. If an end occurs after midnight, keep the following date with it.
What the five labels describe
| Label | What to check |
|---|---|
| Tithi | The lunar phase division based on Sun–Moon angular separation, with its transition time. |
| Vaara | The weekday label and the calendar convention used by the source. |
| Nakshatra | The Moon's position within the source's chosen sidereal framework and its transition. |
| Yoga | A traditional calculated combination of solar and lunar positions; do not confuse it with a medical recommendation. |
| Karana | A subdivision of Tithi, with a time boundary that may differ from other labels. |
These labels are not interchangeable verdicts about whether every activity should proceed. Observance traditions may apply additional rules. Ask the relevant temple or ceremony organizer which rules they use instead of treating a short daily table as a universal instruction.
Calculate a daylight segment: a hypothetical example
Suppose a sample day has sunrise at 06:00 and sunset at 18:00. Its daylight lasts 12 hours, or 720 minutes. Dividing by eight gives 90 minutes per segment. The first segment is 06:00–07:30, the second 07:30–09:00, and so on. The named traditional window depends on the weekday and the rule being applied.
These are invented inputs for teaching the arithmetic, not a forecast or a Gurugram observation. For an actual date, substitute that location's calculated sunrise and sunset. Daylight length changes, so a segment is not always 90 minutes. A clock-time conversion of Delhi's window is not a new calculation for Toronto.
Why two calendars may show different times
Compare like with like: location, date, timezone, sunrise definition, astronomical model, sidereal convention and rounding. The NOAA calculation notes explain assumptions and limitations of solar calculations; NOAA also states that its legacy calculator is no longer maintained. That reference is not a certification of this site's precision.
A calculated Sun–Moon transition and its displayed local clock time are separate concepts. Under the same astronomical model, changing a clock's timezone changes the display of an instant. Sunrise-based day labels and observance decisions also depend on the place and convention. Do not explain every discrepancy as a timezone mistake.
Use the information with appropriate limits
Use a Panchang to understand calendar and cultural timing information. It cannot establish whether surgery, treatment, a contract or an investment will have a good outcome. Consult the appropriate professional and do not delay essential care. For a religious ceremony, confirm the local practice with its organizer.
If two sources disagree, record the URLs, selected place and date, the field being compared, and the timezone. Send that information through our contact page. The methods statement describes the limits of the tools and the distinction between calculation and interpretation.
